Welcome Friends and Family,
The Buddy Walk will be a little bit different this year. It's a virtual walk due to Covid. We are excited because this will allow our friends and family that live far to join our team and fundraise for this great cause.
When Sienna was born, her diagnosis came as a shock to us. Not helping matters was the doctor who framed things in a very negative light. We were unfamiliar with Down syndrome, and we didn't know what to expect. It took us some time to recover. Dr. Vellody and the Down Syndrome Association of Pittsburgh is what helped us turn the corner. Suddenly, we began to realize there was joy here. We were introduced to an amazing community of parents, friends, caregivers, and medical professionals. It's hard to believe we have been on this journey for four years.
This year, I have joined onto the DSAP Board of Directors. I want to help other families facing challenges. In order to help those families, we need to fundraise. DSAP supports the DS Center at Children's Hospital. Insurance only covers the first 15 minutes of an appointment, but the center spends a minimum of an hour answering questions at every appointment. It also provides support, connection, and events to families like ours. Without support from friends like you, we wouldn't have this lifeline. Trust me when I tell you, there is so much fear when you begin this journey. DSAP tries to change that for new families.
We will be selling masks instead of shirts this year. Link to purchase is here -
Thank you for being a part of Sienna's Squad. Whether your support comes in the form of a donation, a kind word, or a mask purchase we are grateful to have you in our lives.
